A combination of coastal and inland attractions make this location an excellent vacation and living destination.

Whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure, you can find it here! Let’s look at the 10 best things to do in Sea Pines Plantation

1. Harbour Town Lighthouse

The Harbour Town Lighthouse is one of the classic landmarks of Sea Pines. The red and white stripes of the lighthouse, which resemble a candy cane, can be spotted from quite a distance away.

The lighthouse originally opened in 1970, and now also boasts a museum on historic Harbour Town. The museum features artifacts from a number of eras, including the Civil War. There is also a gift shop on site, in Harbour Town Marina.

2. Yacht-watching at Harbour Town Marina

In addition to the Harbour Town Lighthouse, the marina is home to a wide variety of impressively large boats. Yachts housed at the marina often measure over 100 feet tall. Take a relaxing stroll down the marina dock to catch up-close sight of these impressive boats.

3. Horseback Riding at Lawton Stables

Lawton Stables is located in the Lowcountry of Hilton Head Island, not far from Sea Pines real estate. They offer trail rides through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, as well as pony rides for children younger than seven years old. The trail rides are guided and Western-style, for a relaxed ride.

Pony rides are offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the summer months and are guided by a Lawton Stables employee. Although reservations are required for the trail rides, they are not for the pony rides. Children and adults can enjoy the farm animals, including a donkey, goats, sheep, and more.

4. Explore the Baynard Cove Ruins

According to modern legend, the Baynard house fell into the hands of William Baynard when he beat the previous owner in a poker game. The house was originally built in the 1790s, one of the first pieces of Sea Pines real estate, overlooking the Calibogue Sound. It was the main home on a large cotton plantation.

The Baynard family fled the home during the Civil War and was said to house a number of Union soldiers. Later, however, the house was partially burned. The plantation house, and the accompanying ruins of old slave quarters is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

5. Explore the Indian Shell Ring

In the Sea Pines Forest Preserve is a perfect circle of shell and bone. The structure seems to have stood on its own, with no sign of surrounding buildings or other structures. It’s estimated that the ring took about 300 years to build and that it was built over 3,500 years ago.

The ring was constructed by nomadic Native Americans, who likely came to Hilton Head Island to hunt game and catch seafood. It’s one of the original pieces of Sea Pines real estate. The ring was eventually abandoned, although historians are unsure why. Visit the ring, which is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and come up with your own story.

6. Dine in South Beach Marina Village

South Beach Marina Village is a several-minute walk from the beach, and home to a number of restaurants, shops, and villas. Restaurants include the touristy Salty Dog Cafe and the affiliated Land’s End Tavern, which has its own menu.

There is also a handful of shops to browse before or after your meal, all with the ocean breeze just around the corner. You can embrace the village life fully and book your stay at one of the villas of Sea Pines real estate.

7. Golf at Harbour Town Golf Links

No coastal vacation is complete without a trip to a golf course. Harbour Town Golf Links is a well-renowned golf course and common playing grounds to PGA players. Since 1968, it has also been home to the RBC Heritage, a PGA tour event.

The Heritage is the only PGA tour event held in the state of South Carolina. Because of its history and clout, it’s recommended to book your tee time in advance. Tee times can be booked online or over the phone, to ensure you get your shot at this award-winning golf course.

8. Dolphin Tours in Calibogue Sound

Schedule a dolphin tour in the Calibogue Sound, at the tip of Hilton Head Island. The sound is 13 miles long and connects to the Atlantic Ocean. The tours, which are by boat, search for bottlenose dolphins.

Although dolphins are normally migratory, approximately 200 bottlenose dolphins call Hilton Head home. The sound is rich in other marine life as well, and a dolphin tour may come across sea turtles or even manatees along the way.

9. Alligator Boat Tour

An adults-only tour, you should consider the alligator boat tour. The tour, held at sunset, goes through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve in search of alligators. The tour is completed with cheese and wine, which means you must be over 21 to take part.

The cheese and wine are both complimentary with the purchase of a ticket, which must be done in advance. The tour is approximately an hour and a half long, and the perfect end to an activity-filled day on the island.

10. Visit the Art Gallery in the Community Center

For those unexpected rainy days on the island, don’t stay cooped up in your hotel room. Even when lightning closes the beaches, there is plenty to do on Sea Pines Plantation.

Head down to the art gallery in Sea Pines Community Center. The gallery features local artists and sometimes holds special exhibits free-of-charge. Check online for hours and updated information about the works on display.
